State lawmakers on Monday suggested redirecting funding away from the California District Attorneys Association after an audit found the prosecutor advocacy group misdirected almost $3 million meant for enforcement of environmental and worker protection laws.

The audit, commissioned by the district attorneys association and completed in December, revealed what it called “a longstanding past financial practice, beginning in 2004″ of mixing money earmarked for specific programs with unrestricted funds used at the private group’s discretion.
