Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders on Wednesday announced that they reached a deal on a $9.6 billion economic stimulus package that restores $200 million in previous cuts to California courts.

The restored money was tucked away in an agreement billed by the governor’s office as action that “will speed needed relief to individuals, families and businesses suffering the most significant economic hardship from the COVID-19 recession.” The proposal, which must still be approved by the Legislature, includes direct aid to low-income Californians and small businesses.
