For Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who is facing both criminal charges and civil lawsuits, politics may play into her trial approach in both legal settings.

White-collar defense attorneys said it’s typical for criminal defendants to immediately move for a stay of any civil litigation against them while the criminal case is pending, but Kane has yet to do so, even filing an answer in one civil suit. While she still could make a motion to stay, attorneys said, Kane may look to the civil litigation as a way to gain information beneficial to her, or as a method of building support.
