An employee who became injured while trying to help another worker in danger was within the course and scope of employment for workers’ compensation purposes, the Commonwealth Court has ruled.

A three-judge panel affirmed a decision July 7 from a workers’ compensation judge, who said Franklin Pound was entitled to compensation for injuries to his leg, knee, foot, ribs, back, head and lungs that he suffered during his work installing a pipeline at a sanitation plant. Pound got those injuries while attempting to assist a sanitation-plant worker who had fallen into a pit and died.
