Allison Wheeler, an associate at Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano, was a guest speaker on the “Women in Law” panel discussion November 28 to the University of Pennsylvania’s Pre-Law Women organization.
Wheeler spoke to young women who are interested in a career in law and shared details about why she chose a career in law, what it is like to practice law as a woman and what obstacles and opportunities she faces as a female lawyer.
James W. Saxton, chair of Stevens & Lee’s health care litigation group and co-chair of the health care department, presented to the Canadian Medical Protective Association on October 11 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Carl Weiner, co-chair of Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin’s real estate department, spoke on “Enforcement of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions” at a Pennsylvania Bar Institute seminar titled “Condominium and Homeowner Associations — Lessons on Liabilities, Liens and Litigations.”
Attorneys and staff at Begley, Carlin & Mandio participated in a United Way campaign, raising nearly $8,300, of which half was staff donations.
The firm also hosted a toy/gift drive from November 13 to December 14. All toys and gifts were given to the United Way of Bucks County.
Begley staff member Sharon Santi coordinated both initiatives.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced the sixth annual District Attorney’s SPCA Support Drive, which is taking place this month and January 2013.
Prosecutors have organized a collection drive to benefit the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The support drive is being spearheaded by Assistant District Attorneys Lindsay O’Brien and Kathleen Colgan.
Anyone wishing to donate blankets, towels, canned pet food, animal toys or other items can drop them at the District Attorney’s Office, located on the fourth floor of the Montgomery County Courthouse.
Bruce Chiu of Cohen & Grigsby was named a partner in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.
Chiu previously served as senior counsel. He focuses his practice on e-commerce, technology development and licensing agreements, international business transactions and general corporate matters.
Catrina A. Rogers joined Dickie McCamey & Chilcote as an associate.
Rogers concentrates her practice in the area of medical malpractice. Prior to joining the firm, she served as a judicial law clerk to Judge Ronald W. Folino of the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas.
Elected and Appointed
Stacey Vernallis of Goehring, Rutter & Boehm was appointed to the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession.
Vernallis heads the litigation group at the firm. She currently serves as national trial counsel in toxic tort and products liability claims, and represents insurers and businesses in catastrophic loss cases.
