Law firm mergers and acquisitions from January through September of this year were up 79 percent nationally compared to the same nine-month period last year, according to a new report by consulting firm Altman Weil, but the number of those types of moves in Pennsylvania has remained steady.

In the first nine months of 2011, U.S. law firms have been involved in 43 mergers and acquisitions, according to the report, while there had been only 24 of those deals by this point last year.
