When I introduce our new lawyers to pro bono work, I try to set appropriate expectations and to prepare lawyers for the particular challenges that frequently accompany the work. Most pro bono cases are not going to be made into “Hallmark Hall of Fame” television specials.

Indeed, pro bono clients can seem a lot less appreciative of free legal advice than new lawyers might expect, and lawyers need to be sensitive to the client’s circumstances and the difficulties the representation might present.
