As generative artificial intelligence has blazed a trail through the legal profession since late 2022, and particularly since the release of GPT-4 nearly a year ago, law firms have increasingly turned their attention to harnessing the power of the technology to enhance internal workflows, boost efficiency and more. In many instances, that focus has taken the form of homegrown law firm chatbots, which proliferated widely in the summer of 2023.

A smaller group of firms have looked beyond chatbots to build bespoke tools for their employees’ most common specific use cases. One such firm is Dechert, who first rolled out DechertMind, a chatbot that would later expand into a suite of generative AI-powered tools, in April 2023.
