A Camden County jury awarded $3.1 million on Feb. 16 to the family of a 54-year-old woman who died after she was diagnosed with a case of necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating bacteria. But the award was reduced 35%, to $2,007,742, because her disease was deemed a preexisting condition.

Adrienne Nock, 54, needed surgery urgently to stop the bacteria from spreading through her body, but she died after a series of miscommunications delayed her operation for several hours, according to Steven G. Wigrizer and Jason S. Weiss of Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky in Philadelphia, who represented her estate.
