Concerns surrounding accuracy and confidentiality are prompting multiple organizations that serve Pennsylvania’s lawyers to take a careful look at appropriate ways to use generative AI, but immediate changes to the state’s ethics rules look unlikely.

According to Daniel Siegel, chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s committee on legal ethics and professional responsibility, lawyers are currently debating whether AI is a valid research tool, a concern heightened in the wake of the now infamous case of two New York lawyers submitting a brief filled with false case citations.
