The state Supreme Court has exercised its King’s Bench jurisdiction to take over the legal fight regarding Pennsylvania’s new congressional map. The decision comes as a lower court had been set to rule in the case in the coming days.

The move led to a partisan 5-2 split between the justices, and prompted two jurists in the court’s majority to offer explanations for their decisions—something the justices need not do when issuing orders to take up or deny hearing cases.
