I am a senior district judge who lost the re-election. Can I serve as a senior judge?

Probably not, though there are several variables. The law is that if one is a district judge and loses the re-election bid, they are precluded from serving as a senior judge. I am not sure why that was added to the statutory language. It does not make a lot of sense, particularly if there is an experienced senior judge. Presumably, the philosophy was that if someone lost the election, they were not fit to continue to serve. That rationale, of course, would not be valid.
