The National Law Review reports an American Bar Association survey tells of significant consequences to law firms and internal legal teams that suffer a cyber attack. This includes firm downtime, loss of billable hours, unrepariable destruction or unrecoverable loss of files, and paying consulting fees for repairing damages that resulted from the attacks—technological, operational and reputational.

There are also clients to consider. They rely on law firms and inside counsel to protect confidential information. This includes records stored inside computer systems—not only on desktops in the office, but also mobile devices on the road, and in cloud systems.
