Ocean County has sued Attorney General Gurbir Grewal over a directive restricting the sharing of information between the county and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement concerning inmates in the county jail.
Ocean County and the county Board of Chosen Freeholders are seeking a declaration that Grewal’s Directive 2018-6 exceeds the lawful scope of his authority and is preempted by the federal government’s exclusive authority to regulate and enforce immigration laws.
