Christopher Carlisle joined Dykema Cox Smith’s corporate finance practice group as senior counsel in the firm’s Dallas office. Carlisle focuses his practice on business transactions, including partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies. Carlisle was in-house transactional counsel at Dean Foods.

Deanna Reitman joined DLA Piper’s corporate practice in Houston as of counsel. Reitman will focus on energy. Reitman was in-house counsel at Noble Americas.

David Elrod joined Shackelford Bowen McKinley & Norton as partner in the firm’s Dallas office. Elrod joins the firm’s litigation practice and will focus on state and federal litigation involving energy, oil and gas, real estate, bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Elrod was founder of Elrod PLLC.

Elizabeth Franko Fruth joined Winstead as of counsel in the firm’s real estate development and investments practice group in the Dallas office. Fruth focuses her practice on representing developers, institutional investors, lenders and borrowers in real estate transactions including acquisitions and disposition, leasing and financing and condominium formation. Fruth was in-house real estate counsel for Macerich.

Esther Donald was promoted to partner in GoransonBain’s Dallas office. Donald’s practice focuses on family law. Prior to being promoted to partner, Donald was an associate at GoransonBain.

Richard Deutsch joined McGuireWoods as partner in the firm’s Houston office. Deutsch will focus on client arbitrations including international centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the international Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and the Singapore International arbitration Centre (SIAC). Deutch was partner at Andrew Kurth Kenyon.

Steven Spears joined BakerHostetler as partner in the firm’s Houston office. Spears joined the firm’s intellectual property group and focuses on patent, trade secret and other technology related litigation. Spears was partner at McDermott Will & Emery.


Chief Justice Terrie Livingston has announced that she will retire from the Second District Court of Appeals effective Sept. 8, 2017. Chief Justice Livingston has served as a justice on the court since 1994, and has been the court’s chief justice since 2010 when she was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry.


Kat Gallagher, partner at Beck Redden, has been named by Benchmark Litigation as one of the best female lawyers in the nation. Gallagher is included in the list of 2017 Top Women in the U.S. Litigation and is one of seven Houston female litigators earning this distinct recognition.

State Bar of Texas received a national award for one of its signature efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. The Texas Minority Counsel Program received one of three ABA Partnership Awards during an award ceremony help in conjunction with the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in New York.
