When David Cowen, of The Cowen Group, sent me The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, I figured it was going to be just another one of those touchy-feely “let’s get you organized” guides you find in airport bookstores, churned out by authors with dubious resumes.

I should have known better. Cowen, whose New York City-based headhunter and research consultancy focuses on e-discovery/compliance/information governance, wouldn’t waste his time with infomercial wannabes. Then I saw the bio for the author, Charles Duhigg — a reporter for The New York Times — and the imprint, Random House, and figured I was in for a good ride. Let’s put it this way: If you like Malcolm Gladwell’s publications, you will be mesmerized.
