The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has disciplined former Dallas judge Etta Mullin, whose alleged dislike for a criminal defense attorney caused her to be recused from a case, for repeatedly and improperly trying to intervene in the recusal proceedings to assert her “rights” after the matter was taken off her docket.

The public admonition, released by the commission on May 26, concludes that Mullin, former judge of Dallas County Criminal Court-at-Law No. 5, created the appearance of bias by her poor judicial demeanor. The admonition also noted that local, statewide and national media published critical articles about Mullin while she was running for re-election in 2014 “for alleged inefficient courtroom management skills and for alleged discourteous, impatient and undignified treatment of certain attorneys.”
