The year 2013 was a particularly interesting year in patent litigation in the Eastern District of Texas. The year was unusual in that the results were decidedly one-sided. Given the reputation of the Eastern District, it might surprise some that jury verdicts heavily favored defendants in 2013. In fact, juries sided with defendants two-thirds of the time. A jury rendered a verdict in 16 patent cases during 2013.
