A court has allowed an assistant attorney general’s whistleblower claims to proceed against the Texas Office of the Attorney General (OAG), but it has barred claims against Attorney General Greg Abbott in his personal capacity.

In the Oct. 2 lawsuit filed in Travis County District Court, Michael Ritter alleged that, after he reported “illegal conduct,” the OAG retaliated by transferring him to another division and removing him from four cases set for trial, according to the original petition, sworn petition/application for writ of preliminary injunction and verified complaint for a temporary restraining order in Ritter v. Abbott. Among other things, Ritter alleged some of his coworkers falsified their time sheets and one lawyer scheduled “excessive and unnecessary work travel.”
