City worker claiming age discrimination gets $25,000

The former director of engineering and planning for the city of Tomball agreed to a $25,000 settlement on his age discrimination claim on Feb. 8. Mark McClure, who was 55 when he was fired, claimed that the new assistant city manager, a woman in her mid-30s, disliked him because of his age and gender. He also said his termination was in retaliation for complaining to human resources that the assistant city manager was treating him worse than she treated younger employees. When she handed him his termination letter, she allegedly said she smelled something musty, which he took as a reference to his age.
