The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, American Electric Power and Calpine subsidiary Champion Energy Services were sued on April 20 in Texas District Court for Hidalgo County. The court action, brought by Guerra & Sabo on behalf of DS Carrizo Properties LLC, accuses the defendants of failing to weatherize and manage their electricity generation, transmission and distribution facilities, leading to ‘outrageously’ high electricity bills when Winter Storm Uri hit Texas in 2021. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants.
