Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Netherlands office is representing U.S. oil and gas giant ExxonMobil in its landmark legal action against the EU, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The challenge, which was filed by the German and Dutch subsidiaries of the Texas-based energy multinational over a week ago, will look to stop the EU’s new windfall tax against oil and gas companies.
