A jury awarded more than $3 million in a sex and pregnancy discrimination trial that also raised questions about whether a state university could selectively disregard crediting years of service at other universities when considering tenure.

Evdokia Nikolova is a Bulgarian immigrant who has taught as an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas-Austin since January 2014. Her cause of action, Nikolova v. University of Texas at Austin, was under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, as amended to include the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
