The U.S. Justice Department is weighing whether to appeal a Washington judge’s order requiring financial regulatory agencies to provide the public a greater accounting of individuals and companies that secured federal coronavirus loans as part of an emergency relief program.

Federal agencies backed hundreds of billions of dollars in forgivable loan relief through the Paycheck Protection Program, which was set up and run by the U.S. Small Business Administration to help businesses stay afloat in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic.
