Former Judge Rudy Delgado is facing a fight from the federal government on his request for compassionate release from prison for his judicial bribery sentence because of the coronavirus.

In a series of court filings this month, the government has made it clear that it opposes the idea of releasing Delgado. The judge has argued that COVID-19 infections are rampant in the Fort Worth federal prison where he’s serving his sentence, and that because he is elderly and has several underlying health conditions, he’s at high risk of serious illness or death if he gets the disease.
