With the highest number of votes ever cast in a State Bar of Texas race, Houston attorney Randy Sorrels defeated Dallas lawyer Lisa Blue to become the bar’s next president-elect.

A total of 32,445 votes were cast out of 102,025 active attorneys in Texas, Lowell Brown, the State Bar’s communications director, said when the bar released the vote totals on May 1. The turnout percentage of 31.8 percent was the highest since 2000, Brown said.
