The bloody drug violence of the Netflix streaming series “Narcos” is more than just a TV show. It’s a piece of Leon Kellner’s past.

Three seasons of “Narcos” have chronicled the rise and fall of the Medellin and Cali drug cartels in Colombia during the U.S. drug wars. They are battles the likes of which Kellner knows well. As the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida from 1985 to 1988, Kellner convicted a Medellin cartel kingpin who ran a billion-dollar drug-smuggling ring, as well as 15 Miami police officers involved in a major drug-smuggling scandal.
