ALM Intelligence launched the Global 100 this week, the annual overview of the world’s highest-grossing firms. The data shows that Global 100 firms are more global than ever, with an average of 9 offices and over 1,000 lawyers per firm. Unsurprisingly, the majority of the Global 100 are US-based firms, with just over 30% based overseas.
Publication of the Global 100 calls attention to where in the world top U.S. law firms are entering and leaving, and where they are centering the majority of their workforce. While our Law.com coverage such as this post, give some indication as to where firms are eyeing, our branch office data gives a better understanding where these firms are currently located.
The visualization below uses the NLJ 350 2016 and the Am Law 200 2016 to power an interactive chart of Am Law 200 offices by headcount and location. Easily search the top firms in Paris, offices by headcount in Saudi Arabia, or where DLA Piper has the most attorneys.
One interesting takeaway is that for the Am Law 200, five out of the top ten cities outside of the US and UK by firm presence are in Asia.
Top 10 international cities include: Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Brussels, Tokyo, Paris, Frankfurt, Singapore, Dubai, and Munich (tied with Moscow).
As clients and law firms become more global, it becomes more critical than ever to benchmark where top law firms are located.
