Rising Big Law associate salaries have a waterfall effect on the firm, billing practices and client rates. But one question law departments should consider is whether associate raises will also affect law department compensation. There are two primary reasons why law departments should be concerned.

1)    The rising salaries at Big Law firms, which serve as a feeder group for law department jobs, affect the law department recruitment pipeline by making it increasingly difficult for law departments to compete with law firm salaries.
