For most players in the Big Law market, laterals are currency. In an ALM Legal Intelligence/Group Dewey Consulting study, 96% of firms identified hiring lateral lawyers as either “very important” or “moderately important” to their revenue growth strategies. This sentiment is borne out in the number of moves by Am Law 200 partners in recent years, reaching a high of 2,890 in FY15, according to the annual ALM Legal Intelligence/American Lawyer Lateral Report.

The table below, using data from the 2016 ALM Legal Intelligence/National Law Journal Staffing Survey, identifies the firms that had the largest percentage of lateral partner hires in FY15. For example, according to the Staffing Survey data, Dinsmore & Shohl added 61 lateral partners in FY15, accounting for approximately one-quarter of its 246 total partners.
