Supreme Court Ponders Religion's Place

The U.S. Supreme Court convenes in a closed conference today to consider more than 1,900 new cases. Leading the list of cases that might be granted review are several First Amendment establishment clause disputes involving prison inmates' religious rights and Ten Commandments displays on public property. The Ten Commandments cases have been grabbing the headlines, but it's the Virginia prison rights case that may have a better chance of being granted review.

DLA Piper Expands Its Presence in Russian Market

DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary LLP, itself the product of a cross-Atlantic merger, is continuing its global expansion, announcing Monday its integration of the 80-lawyer Russian practice EY Law CIS. DLA Piper said the deal marks the largest ever transaction in the legal market of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The deal will propel DLA Piper's existing practice in Russia into the top three law firms by head count and will give it offices in Georgia and Ukraine.
