Wachovia's CEO ouster may foretell new losses, takeover

Wachovia Corp. fell to the lowest since July 1995 after the bank ousted Chief Executive Officer Kennedy Thompson, signaling the company may report a second-quarter loss. Wachovia, the nation's fourth-biggest bank, dropped as much as 4.5 percent in New York trading, adding to a slide that has cost the lender more than half its market value in 12 months.

Women have not only increased their numbers in the ranks of Fortune 500 general counsel, they have increased their paychecks.A dozen female names showed up in the 2008 GC Compensation Survey of the 100 highest paid chief legal officers by Corporate Counsel magazine, a sister publication of the Daily Report. The Lanham Act and Foreign Gray Market Cases

Piccoli A/S v. Calvin Klein Jeanswear Co. set an important precedent by clarifying the requisite effect on U.S. commerce for Lanham Act jurisdiction. A trademark licensee with an exclusive territory outside the U.S. who alleges "gray market exportation," "transshipment" or "parallel exportation" by U.S. entities into its exclusive territory should be able to maintain a cause of action under the Lanham Act, despite the absence of any allegation of deception or confusion of U.S. consumers.
