Associates Survey 2008

Smaller firms often outscore larger ones on our annual survey of midlevel job satisfaction. It may be because a more intimate atmosphere breeds happiness. Maybe it's because associates have more responsibility. Perhaps it's because they have a better chance of making partner. In these charts, firms are grouped roughly according to size. In the first category are firms whose annual gross revenues are too low to qualify for the Am Law 200. These are the smallest firms that took part in our survey. In the second category are Am Law Second Hundred firms?numbers 101-200 on the most recent Am Law 200 survey (July.) In the final category are firms that appear on our most recent Am Law 100 (May) or Global 100 (October 2007) survey. For a full methodology, click here.

Internal Memos in Discrimination Case Put CNN Hiring in Spotlight

An employment discrimination claim against CNN could turn on whether it was legal to designate specific on-air positions for minorities as the network sought to increase diversity. CNN says it didn't renew the contract of anchor Marina Kolbe because she didn't meet its standards for on-air talent, not because of her race.

The Ten Commandments cases have been grabbing the headlines, but it's the Virginia prison rights case that may have a better chance of being granted review.

Former Georgia AG to Form Lobbying Firm

Over the four years since he left public office, former Georgia Attorney General Michael J. Bowers had remade himself into the ultimate outsider, suing state and local government with considerable success. But, with the ascent of Republicans to positions of state power, the Democrat-turned-Republican is now very much a political insider. He'll be trading on that status with a new venture, the lobbying firm of Watson Bowers.
