A plaintiff who bought six tickets to a Yankees-Royals game on Stubhub objected to paying $57.75 per ticket when the tickets' face value was just $20 a piece. She sued the Yankees, Stubhub, and its parent, eBay, for deceptive practices. Rejecting the claim, Manhattan federal district court judge John Keenan suggested Stubhub clients would have to be stupid not to realize they were paying a premium for reissued tickets.

Live Nation wields 'The Boss' against StubHub in ticket battle

Live Nation Entertainment, the world's largest concert promoter and ticket seller, is using Bruce Springsteen's tour to push paperless tickets, a move that may weaken StubHub's lead in the $4 billion resale market. The company set aside a fifth of the seats at Springsteen's New Jersey concerts next month for paperless transactions. Its Ticketmaster unit sold conventional tickets for the New York shows, as state law requires. The result: eBay's StubHub.com lists 63 percent fewer tickets for those sections at the New Jersey shows, Live Nation said in an email.

EBay Sued for $3.8 Billion for Alleged Patent Infringement

Online auction giant eBay was hit Tuesday with a $3.8 billion patent infringement lawsuit. XPRT Ventures, which holds patents covering e-commerce payments and methods, filed suit in Delaware federal court against eBay and subsidiaries, including PayPal and StubHub. The suit alleges infringement of six XPRT patents and alleges that eBay misappropriated information provided in confidence. The basis for infringement dates from 2001, when XPRT inventors applied for patents.

This month New York became the first state to require "e-tailers" to collect and remit sales tax. California considered similar legislation this year, but failed.
