Age bias suit on behalf of TV writers ends in $4.5M settlement
A class action alleging that production studios, television networks and talent agencies routinely discriminate against older television writers has settled for $4.5 million, the first of 23 class actions to reach a resolution. A case that the Massachusetts state Appeals Court contends was tossed out of Superior Court too quickly will get a second trial based on a 1989 finding that a lawyer representing a partnership has a fiduciary duty to the other partners. Salvatore Cacciola's widow sued a Boston attorney on several counts. It was later ruled that her complaint could be amended to include other partnership members.Rival Automotive Technologies International had originally sued several of Delphi's customers, including General Motors and Ford Motor Company, for patent infringement in the northern district of Texas. Delphi's lawyers took control by moving the dispute to Michigan, filing a declaratory judgment action there.
