Patent attorney Bertram Rowland and his former firm, Flehr Hohbach Test Albritton and Herbert of Palo Alto, Calif., agreed to pay $12 million to settle a trade secrets misappropriation case. Mountain View, Calif.-based microchip manufacturer Caliper Technologies alleged the law firm shared its trade secrets with Rowland, who later left the firm to work for Caliper's competitor, Aclara Biosciences.
