Nortel Settles SEC Suit for $35M, Agrees to Improve Safeguards

Nortel and its principal subsidiary, Nortel Networks Limited, will pay $35 million to settle civil fraud charges with the SEC, the company and the SEC said Monday. The telecom equipment maker also agreed to provide the SEC with quarterly written reports detailing its progress in implementing a remediation plan and actions to address weaknesses in its internal controls. The SEC alleged that Nortel and its subsidiary committed revenue and earnings management fraud.
