Adelphia Founder, Son Guilty of 18 Fraud Counts

A federal jury in Manhattan convicted Adelphia Communications founder John J. Rigas and his son Timothy J. Rigas on Thursday of securities and bank fraud charges stemming from the multibillion-dollar scandal that bankrupted the company. The jury acquitted Adelphia's former assistant treasurer, Michael C. Mulcahey, of all counts, but remained undecided on 22 of Michael J. Rigas' 23 counts. The partial verdict came during the trial's fifth month.
