San Jose Wants Music Hall Melee Moved

San Jose wants a lawsuit over Santa Clara County's planned $87 million concert hall to be heard anywhere but in Santa Clara County. Lawyers for the city will ask Superior Court Judge Socrates Manoukian to transfer a lawsuit involving the stalled House of Blues concert hall project to a neutral site. According to San Jose City Attorney J. Richard "Rick" Doyle, "When you have a situation where you have the two largest entities suing each other in the same place, you need to look for a neutral venue."

In 2004, Eric Sidebotham opened EJS-Law, a firm focusing on business disputes, IP litigation and gaming. In 2009, five casino and gaming matters made up more than 80 percent of EJS-Law's revenue, compared to less than half when he launched the firm. It's not the simplest practice area to build up, though. The need for discretion makes marketing to clients a challenge. "We have to be ubiquitous and anonymous at the same time," Sidebotham notes. And out-of-town counsel aren't always well-received in gambling towns.
