A New York jury has awarded former investment banker Mark Schiffer $7.25 million in damages for vision impairment that he claimed resulted from LASIK eye surgery. Though well below the $35 million sought, the award is the largest to date in a suit over the popular vision correction surgery. Calling the TLC Laser Eye Center the "McDonalds of LASIK surgery," Schiffer's lawyer said that, in the doctor's rush to see other patients, he failed to note that Schiffer was not a proper candidate for the procedure.
