'Sweetie Mine' Squares Off Against 'Huggable Lovable'

Showing that toys can outgrow their copyrights, the 2nd Circuit ruled that a big doll did not infringe on a smaller doll's copyright, even though the big doll was derived from the smaller doll's enlarged version. The panel affirmed the lower court finding that Goffa International's Huggable Lovable "looks like a slightly less alert and attractive relative" of Well-Made Toy's bigger version of Sweetie Mine, "but definitely not like a twin."
