Even as Miami's notorious port corruption trial was sinking Monday, a new criminal investigation was focusing on suspected fraud in a $200 million seaport development program. The program was criticized last month by state auditors as being run too loosely. That inquiry is looking into Broward County's purchase of 271 acres from Hollywood-based developer Michael Swerdlow as part of an expansion of Port Everglades. The county paid $51 million more than its highest appraisal, sparking intense criticism.
