During oral arguments Wednesday in the case that's become a journalism cause c�l�bre, three Second Circuit judges seemed inclined to endorse a deal both sides said they could live with.

Famed media lawyer Floyd Abrams wants to file a heavyweight amicus brief in support of the documentary filmmaker ordered to turn over 600 hours of raw footage to Chevron. Chevron says the Second Circuit shouldn't take the brief unless it can respond.

In the latest wrinkle in the never-ending suit against Chevron for environmental contamination in Ecuador, Chevron is demanding 600 hours of raw footage from a filmmaker whose outtakes allegedly show collusion between plaintiffs lawyers and purportedly neutral Ecuadorian experts. The filmmaker's lawyer says he deserves journalistic protection. Judge Kaplan doesn't seem to think so.
