No longer is the 60-plus set just taking a pension and slinking off into the sunset. Lawyers are living longer and healthier, and many want to stay professionally active well into their 70s. Law firms are split regarding enforcing mandatory retirement policies. Economics are driving the split, since younger attorneys want to make more money, be the primary client contact or be lead trial counsel. Small Atlanta Firm Helps Danish Co. Buy $463 Million Business

Forget that meeting across town. Lawyers from Welch Spell, a small Atlanta firm, recently held meetings in six cities as part of an agreement aimed at helping Danish-based Coloplast to buy two business lines from California's Mentor Corp. and expand into the still-fertile area of penile implants. Purchase price: $463 million. Welch Spell partner Laurance D. Pless says the transaction was a complicated one, involving more than a dozen lawyers on both sides. Says Pless: "There were a lot of 16-hour days."

The Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners has announced the results of the bar examination given Feb. 22 and 23. There were 741 applicants who took the examination, of which 464 passed (the overall pass rate was 63 percent). The names of the successful applicants follow.
