Dying to Work

Jobs that lure Mexican workers to the United States are killing them in a worsening epidemic that claims a victim a day, an investigation has found. In the first study of its kind, Mexican workers were shown to be as much as four times more likely to die than the average U.S.-born worker, with the worst rates occurring in several Southern and Western states. Public safety officials and workers themselves say the cause is cheap labor -- and the fewer questions the better.
