Two days after litigator Marcy Rothman joined Brown McCarroll's Houston office in December 2006, she found out she had breast cancer. Over the course of 2007, she underwent surgeries and chemotherapy. Lawyers allege that the attorneys -- seven of whom are now with Austin firm Brown McCarroll -- helped a now-defunct high-risk loan operation cheat Michael McCarthy and his Austin companies Gowran LLC and MGM Holdings out of $4.5 million. The defendants' attorney says his clients deny any wrongdoing.
