U.S. District Judge Terry Means of Fort Worth has vacated $35,000 in sanctions he had imposed sua sponte against four firms and seven lawyers, doing away with his previous finding that they had engaged in "attorney misconduct" while litigating a patent case. As part of order in april, Means took the unusual step of issuing sanctions, sua sponte, against four firms and seven lawyers who had represented a patent holder in the patent-infringement suit. But four months later, Means changed his mind and issued a 52-page opinion and order vacating the sanctions against the attorneys and firms.
