AP - Florida chose Federated Investors Inc. on Tuesday to take over management of its local government investment pool, hoping the private investment firm will help reassure investors who withdrew more than $15 billion in a panic last year.The pool had been managed by the State Board of Administration when it was rocked by a run after mortgage-related securities it held were downgraded.

Two Major Fraud Cases Reach N.Y. Federal Court

Federal authorities brought charges in two major securities fraud investigations Wednesday, saying one scheme fell apart because of publicity about the Bernard Madoff scandal. In that case, New Jersey fund manager James Nicholson was accused of defrauding investors of as much as $900 million since 2004.
