Bankruptcy Trustee Sues McDermott Will for Malpractice

A bankruptcy trustee for Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers of New York has sued McDermott, Will & Emery for legal malpractice, charging that partners at the Chicago-based law firm "put their personal relationships and selfish economic concerns above the interests of the charitable institution they were entrusted to protect." The suit is seeking $200 million for each of six causes of action, including legal malpractice, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.

The trustee had alleged that McDermott purposefully delayed the bankruptcy filing of Saint Vincent's to keep members of the hospital's restructuring team in place and run up its own bills.

Comedian's Mother-in-Law Sues Over Being Brunt of Jokes

A New Jersey federal judge has been asked to order comedian Sunda Croonquist to shut up already with the Jewish mother-in-law jokes. Ruth Zafrin says in a pending suit that she is being falsely and maliciously tagged as a racist in her daughter-in-law's comedy routines. Zafrin's daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Neil Edelman, also are plaintiffs in the suit, which charges the comedian depicts them in a false light with intent to harm. On Tuesday Judge Mary Cooper denied a motion to dismiss on procedural grounds.
