Toyota Motor Corp. agreed on Monday to pay a record $16.4 million fine that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, imposed earlier this month after finding that Toyota waited four months to report sudden acceleration defects in its vehicles.On Wednesday lawyers for LG at Munger Tolles and Paul Hastings asked U.S. District Judge Susan Illston to scrap her plans for a bifurcated May trial in the five-year-old MDL, explaining that with two new settlements last week, LG and Toshiba are the only defendants left. The judge rejected that argument at a hearing on Wednesday, opting to move forward with the trial as planned.
